Hi Everyone,
My name is Ron Beleno and for those that don't know me, here is a link that will share some of my background. I can also be found on twitter @rb33canada
I am an active advocate in the dementia, caregiving, aging, and research communities. Many friends in my network know that I appreciate spending quality time #BreakingBread and having meals with people to socialize, learn, discover and cheer for each other. Most of the time, this would be physically in person at a coffee shop, restaurant, fast food mall, on a picnic bench, or wherever the opportunity allows.
With our current challenges that we are facing across the globe, we are all adjusting to Social Distancing to keep all of us healthy and safe. Although this may create barriers to physically connecting in spaces together and could increase Social Isolation, it does allow the opportunity for us to meet even more often virtually, especially with those that are distant from each other, whether it's in another part of the city, country, or around the world. There is an opportunity now to actually become closer with friends and new friends, if you choose to look at it that way.
For years I have been having meals or drinks with friends online, I just happen to call it Teledining, but call it whatever you wish. I live in Toronto, Canada and I still need to eat a few times daily just like all of you (Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs - Basic Physiological Needs). Why not coordinate times at least once a week or more to virtually meet online with a small group and just catch up or discuss an interesting topic that you can connect on? It could be just for 15-minutes, a full hour, or more - whatever works for you. There are no rules except to come bringing either a meal, a snack, dessert, coffee, tea, wine, cocktail, water, or chocolate milk and an OPEN MIND to simply socialize. Note that this is not a webinar, lecture, presentation, or meeting to actually work. It's to socialize.
Here you will find plans for some upcoming Teledining events with friends of mine. They each have a theme, but we are not going to be forced to stay on the topic, we will go where the conversation goes. Likely we should have some good conversation, make new friends, and also have some fun.
There are NO GUARANTEES that everyone who signs up will be able to attend or invited to specific events due to possible scheduling, demand, and availability. Each Teledining date will be a size of 7-8 diners (including myself as the host) to allow everyone to have a voice at the Virtual Table. Each Teledining date will be planned for 45-minutes to an hour. I will do my best to make the connections happen, but again I can't promise that we will be able to have everyone attend. Also, there's nothing stopping you as well to go ahead and do your own virtual meals with others.
If you are interested in possibly attending one of these events, register your interest in each one of them. I will follow-up to figure out scheduling and availability in due time.
Thanks everyone and stay well - Ron
